Industrial production

The index of industrial production in the Kursk region for January-May 2018 was 104.7%, including 114.5% in the extraction of minerals; processing industries — 110.3%; providing electric power, gas and steam, air conditioning — 80%; water supply, sanitation, organization of waste collection and disposal, and activities for the elimination of pollution – 106.7%.

In the structure of goods shipped, works performed and services rendered by the enterprises of the industrial complex of the Kursk region, the share of processing industries was 53.1%; mining of mineral resources — 25.8%; provision of electric power, gas and steam, air conditioning — 19.7%; water supply; water disposal, organization of waste collection and disposal, pollution abatement activities — 1.4%.


The main products in the extraction of minerals are iron ores of ferrous metals, non-metallic raw materials used in the construction industry (oxidized quartzites), common minerals (sand, clay, chalk).

The leading enterprise of the type of economic activity «mining» is PJSC Mikhailovsky GOK, which is a part of Metalloinvest holding. The products are iron ore, blast furnace, sinter ore, iron ore concentrate, pellets, oxidized quartzites. Mikhailovsky GOK is the second largest complex for the extraction and enrichment of iron ore in Russia.

Based on the results of 5 months of 2018 compared to the same period of 2017, the volume of production in mining increased by 14.5% due to an increase in the output of pellets by Mikhailovsky GOK.

Currently, Mikhailovsky GOK is implementing an investment project «Construction of a crushing and conveyor complex on the northeast and southeast side of the quarry», which will allow to increase the annual production of magnetite concentrate in the volume of at least 17.0 million tons per year.

Providing with electric energy, gas and steam; air conditioning

The performance indicators in the electric power industry are mainly determined by the plans of the Kursk NPP to repair and modernize the power units in order to increase safety and extend the period of their operation. By the results of 5 months of 2018, 9604.2 million kWh of electricity were produced. The industrial production index for the «providing electric power, gas and steam, air conditioning» industry was 80%.



Manufacturing Processes

The volume of shipped goods in processing industries in current prices increased by 5.5% to the level of 2017.

The greatest increase in the index of industrial production was noted in the production of medicines and materials used for medical purposes — 2.6 times; in the production of machinery and equipment not included in other groupings — by 34%; in processing of wood and manufacture of wooden products — by 29,5%; in the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers — by 26.1%; in the manufacture of other vehicles and equipment – by 17%; in the production of paper and paper products — by 15.3%; in furniture production — by 14.4%; in the production of clothing — by 12.8%; in the manufacture of finished metal products, except machinery and equipment — by 10.2%.

The index of food production in January-May 2017 was 100.9%. During the analyzed period, the production of in-kind beef, pork, vegetable and vegetable fruit juices for baby food, spreads, vegetable oil, cottage cheese, cheese products, fermented milk products (except sour cream), condensed milk products, mineral water increased.

At the same time, the production of meat and by-products of food poultry, sausages, semi-finished meat, milk, cream, sour cream, butter, flour, cereals, mixed fodders, premixes, bread and bakery products of non-durable storage, pasta, confectionery, soft drinks decreased.


  • The index of production of agricultural products in January-May 2018 amounted to 105.5% compared to January-May 2017.
  • Livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight in farms of all categories was 228.4 thousand tons (109.1% to January-May 2017), milk – 118.5 thousand tons (100.1%), eggs – 57.7 million pieces (97.9%).

  • In the agricultural organizations of the region in January-May 2018, the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight increased by 10.5%.

  • The number of cattle in farms of all categories at the end of May 2018 amounted to 173.2 thousand heads, or 8.7% more compared to the same date in 2017, including cows — 57.7 thousand heads (6.5% less). The number of pigs increased by 9.9% and amounted to 1,808,900 heads; sheep and goats — by 11.6% (133.6 thousand heads), the number of birds decreased by 13.1% (9119.6 thousand heads).



In the region, the legislative basis for investment activity has been developed, the Investment Strategy for the region has been developed until 2025, the Kursk Oblast Law «On Investment Activities in the Kursk Region» is in force, subordinate regulatory legal acts have been adopted, the subprogram «Creating Favorable Conditions for Attracting Investments in the Economy of the Kursk Region» of the program «Development of the economy and external relations of the Kursk Region» is acting, state support is provided to investors in various forms; the Council for improving the investment climate and JSC «Agency for attracting investments in the Kursk region» are functioning.

Work for creating industrial parks is underway.

Over the years, the Srednerussky Economic Forum has been held in the region, attracting a large number of participants, including investors and entrepreneurs, which allows the Kursk business to find new partners and expand production volumes.

At the largest enterprise Kursk NPP works on the construction of industrial, infrastructure and domestic facilities for the construction of the replacement station of Kursk NPP-2 has been held since 2013. The investor is Rosenergoatom Concern.

Two projects are being implemented at PJSC Mikhailovsky GOK: «Construction of a crushing and conveyor complex on the north-east and southeast side of the quarry» and «Complex for the reception of concentrate» worth 1 400 million rubles.

The implementation of investment projects of large industrial enterprises, such as Pharmstandard-Leksredstva, Kurskkhimvolokno, Kurskrezinotekhnika, Elektroagregat, and others is continuing.

In the agro-industrial complex, large-scale investment projects are being implemented to build livestock complexes and processing enterprises in the districts of the region (LLC Agropromkomplekt-Kursk, LLC Agroindustrial Holding Miratorg and others).

The volume of investments in fixed assets by the results of 2017 amounted to 100.6 billion rubles or 101.7% of the corresponding period of 2016.


Works on the type of activity «Construction» in January-May 2018 were carried out in the amount of 13453.6 million rubles (102.5% by January-May 2017).

In the field of residential buildings with a total area of 176.3 thousand square meters or 105.9% to the same period of the last year, including individual developers — 111.8 thousand square meters (140.0% against the corresponding period of the previous year).

The construction of a residential village «Severny» in the city of Kursk continues (the developer is JSC «Kursk Plant of KPD named after A.F. Deriglazov»). In January-May, 2018, four multi-apartment residential buildings with a total area of 44.12 square meters were put into operation.

On the territory of the N.Medveditsky village council (Tatarenkov village) of the Kursk district, the construction of a residential village, «Moskovsky» is being carried out (the developer is LLC «Chef Invest»).

In 2018, in the territory of Sudzhansky district, it is planned to build 16 residential houses of rental housing with their commissioning in 2019.

The construction of social facilities in the region continues: the secondary school in V. Klykov Avenue in Kursk and the secondary school in Zheleznogorsk, III start-up complex of the Kursk regional oncological dispensary are being built.

Consumer market

In January-May 2018, 80 trade, catering and consumer services enterprises were opened and reconstructed in the region, which allowed creating more than 235 new jobs.

In the cities and districts of the region, 175 trade fairs have been held since the beginning of 2018, including ones, within the framework of Cooperation Agreements with other regions and states, as well as agreements with local producers.

In January-May 2018, the growth rate of retail trade turnover was 104.8% against 99.5% in January-May 2017.

Turnover of public catering in January-May 2018 amounted to 2.5 billion rubles with an increase of 3.6% by January-May 2017.

Paid services to the population of the region has been provided in the amount of 22.6 billion rubles with an increase of 1.5% compared to January-May 2017.

In June 2018, the cost of a minimum set of food amounted to 3381.2 rubles (1st place among the regions of the Central Federal District), which is lower than the average for Russia — 4060.3 rubles.

Standards of living

Monetary income in January-May of 2018 amounted to 25 057 rubles per capita on average and increased by 4.5% to the corresponding period of 2017.

In January-May 2018, the average monthly salary for a full range of organizations amounted to 28 790 rubles, with an increase of 11.0% compared to January-May 2017. For the main types of economic activity, the average monthly wage for January-May 2018 amounted to: 26 580 rubles in agriculture, with an increase of 8.2%; processing industries – 27 449 rubles with growth of 5.3%; construction – 27 624 rubles with growth of 2.6%; transportation and storage – 29 692 rubles with growth of 9.9%; trade wholesale and retail, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles – 24 018 rubles with growth of 7.7%.

Work and employment

The number of unemployed citizens registered with the employment service of the population as of July 1, 2018 was 4 733 people, of whom citizens with the official status of the unemployed were 4 356. Compared to the same date in 2017, the number of registered unemployed decreased by 13.6%.

The level of registered unemployment compared to the same period in 2017 decreased by 0.13% and as of July 1,  2018 amounted to 0.76%.
